 Terms of Use

Thank you for visiting the Thriving Communities Web site. By using this Web site and the services available on this Web site, you consent to the collection and use of your information as outlined below and to the other terms and provisions set below:

Personal information overview

Here is how we handle information about your visit to our Web site:

If you do nothing during your visit but browse through the Web site, read pages, or download information, we will gather and store certain information about your visit automatically. Your Web browser software transmits most of this information to us. This information does not identify you personally.

We automatically collect and store only the following information about your visit:

The numeric IP address (an IP address is a number that is automatically assigned to your computer whenever you are surfing the Web) from which you access the thrivingcommunitiesVT.org Web site. Our software can then map these IP addresses into Internet domain names, for example, “xcompany.com” if you use a private Internet access account, or “yourschool.edu” if you connect from a university’s domain.

  • The type of browser and operating system used to access thrivingcommunitiesVT.org Web site.
  • The date and time you access thrivingcommunitiesVT.org
  • The pages you visit, including graphics loaded from each page and other documents you download, such as PDF (Portable Document Format) files and word processing documents.
  • If you linked to thrivingcommunitiesVT.org from another Web site, the address of that Web site. Your Web browser software transmits this information to us.

We use this information to help us make our site more useful to visitors — to learn about the number of visitors to our site and the types of technology our visitors use. We do not track or record information about individuals and their visits.

Cookies

A cookie is a small text file that a Web site can place on your computer’s hard drive in order, for example, to collect information about your activities on the site or to make it possible for you to use an online shopping cart to keep track of items you wish to purchase. The cookie transmits this information back to the Web site’s computer which, generally speaking, is the only computer that can read it. Most consumers do not know that cookies are being placed on their computers when they visit Web sites. If you want to know when this happens, or to prevent it from happening, you can set your browser to warn you when a Web site attempts to place a cookie on your computer.

Temporary cookies may be used when necessary to complete a transaction or enhance the user experience of using the site.

Use of Web beacons or gif files

Pages in this Web site may contain electronic images known as Web beacons — sometimes also called single-pixel gifs — that allow Thriving Communities to count users who have visited those pages and to deliver co-branded services. Thriving Communities may include Web beacons in promotional e-mail messages or newsletters in order to determine whether messages have been opened and acted upon.

Some of these Web beacons may be placed by third party service providers to help determine the effectiveness of our advertising campaigns or email communications. These Web beacons may be used by these service providers to place a persistent cookie on your computer. This allows the service provider to recognize your computer each time you visit certain pages or emails and compile anonymous information in relation to those page views, which in turn enables us and our service providers to learn which advertisements and emails bring you to our Web site and how you use the site. Thriving Communities prohibits Web beacons from being used to collect or access your personal information.

Email and online forms

If you choose to identify yourself by sending us an email or by using online forms, we use that information to respond to your message and to help us get you the information you have requested. We treat e-mails the same way we treat letters sent to us. thrivingcommunitiesVT.org does not collect information for commercial marketing. We will not sell or rent your personally identifiable information to anyone.

Sharing personal information

In addition to email, thrivingcommunitiesVT.org may ask for your personal information in order to provide you with information or services.

All of these activities are purely voluntary. You will always have the option of whether to perform the transaction and provide this information. Please understand, however, that in order to perform a service transaction, you will be required to provide some personal information. Whether to perform the transaction is up to you.

ThrivingcommunitiesVT.org will send personally identifiable information about you to other companies, agencies, or people when:

  • We have your consent to share the information;
  • We need to share your information to provide the product or service you have requested;
  • We need to send the information to companies who work on behalf of thrivingcommunitiesVT.org to provide a product or service to you. (Unless we tell you differently, these companies do not have any right to use the personally identifiable information we provide to them beyond what is necessary to assist us); or
  • We are required to do so by law, subpoena, court order or legal process.

Online transactions with third parties

When you provide personally identifiable information to third parties through ThrivingcommunitiesVT.org in order to receive requested services, such information is handled as it would be on direct visit to that third party, and subject to the laws, regulations, practices, and procedures relating to that third party.

Public Records Act
