Fair Housing Month is Here! We have put together a quick overview for this full month of discussions, activities, and educational webinars.
In case you missed it, here is our Facebook Live event featuring Fair Housing Project staff and Jonathan Clark from the Vermont Department of Libraries:
Our events calendar is officially full with more being added each day, including free webinars & discussions around fair & inclusive housing, and with our most recent partnership with the Vermont Department of Libraries, fair housing book groups, story walks, and movie screenings across the state. You can register for Fair Housing Month events hosted across the state at fairhousingmonthvt.org/events-calendar
We still have room to add events to the calendar! If you are hosting any event related to Fair Housing and inclusive communities, let us know here. We will help spread the word, and (of course) appreciate your help sharing our events as well. We are promoting Fair Housing activities on our Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
The HeART & Home Community Art project is accessible to all ages and skill levels and there are several ways to join in.
On the webpage, you can learn more about the project, request art kits, and download HeART & Home Community Art Prompts to help you, your community, or your family reflect on housing & inclusivity as while drawing, painting, cutting and glueing.
The Art Kits are available for communities, school groups, and families (to be mailed or picked up) to participate in the project. The Art Kits include a 6-pot acrylic paint strip, two paintbrushes, the four art prompts, Fair Housing education materials, and 3 sheets of fun “home & community shapes” to color in and cut out.
To request art kits, just take a minute to fill out this brief form.
Please share photos of your creations and/or process to fhp@cvoeo.org and post to www.facebook.com/HeARTandHomeVT
Be sure to tune into this week’s Fair Housing Friday with Minelle Sarfo-Adu, a Junior at Big Picture South Burlington (BPSB), for a presentation and discussion about Racial Discrimination in Housing & Community Impacts.
This event is quickly followed by a Know Your Rights training with Vermont Legal Aid & the Vermont Human Rights Commission, which will cover the history of the Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8), what Housing Choice Voucher discrimination looks like, what can be done about discrimination.
Both require registration in advance, and neither are to be missed!
Fair Housing Month activities in Vermont are coordinated by the Fair Housing Project of CVOEO, in collaboration with Vermont Department of Libraries, Vermont Library Association, ONE Arts Center, Vermont Legal Aid, Vermont Human Rights Commission, VT Department of Housing and Community Development, and other partners.
